Street Outreach Team Offers Warmth

From Raton to Mora, Chama to Española, the DreamTree Project's street outreach team logs thousands of miles a week distributing clothing and supplies to North Central New Mexico's unhoused population. Packed to the headliner with items when it departs Taos, the team's vehicle typically returns to town empty.

"We're not changing the world here," said Hank Allen, hands on the wheel as he drove up and down the NM 68 corridor in Taos, a job he's done for nearly two years. "We're just giving people a little something."

"Doing what we can in the moment," Jan Ledgerwood said, noting the team had distributed items and offered support services to 45 people just that morning in Española. With her clipboard, she tracks the people they encounter on the street who accepted everything from tampons and toothpaste, to socks, jackets and blankets.
